Practice note
An export is not the end of the workflow. It is the moment when your search becomes someone else's working data.
An export is the handoff between research and action. Make it easy for the next workflow to understand what it contains, where it came from, and what still needs review.
Before clicking Export, select only the records you intend to use. Confirm the visible fields, check that protected details were unlocked intentionally, and remove anything that is clearly outside the audience.
Keep the source beside the file. Record the saved search name, export date, owner, intended use, and any exclusions that were applied. This small amount of context prevents a clean-looking CSV from becoming an unexplained source of truth.
Store the file in an access-controlled location. Before outreach, apply suppression lists, internal do-not-contact rules, consent requirements, and regional policies. A relevant audience still deserves relevant and respectful communication.
Treat the first export as a baseline. Review which fields were actually used, which rows were rejected, and which filters should be tightened in the next search. Good list building is a loop, not a one-time download.
